March (Basketball) - Marianna Konstantinou_2nd Kindergarten of Kremasti, Rhodes, Greece

This month, we learned all about basketball. While it is quite popular in Greece, this time we had the chance to find out the special techniques basketball players use.

To get a better understanding, the students used tongue depressors and elastic bands as well as a wooden spoon to design their own catapult. They even exercised their throws with it and had a fun time!

Students prepared their own healthy snacks with ingredients their parents had brought from home like yoghurt and corn flakes. They experimented and made the combinations of their own preference and tasted them. Hopefully they will establish a new eating habit.

Web Tool: Learning Apps - Healthy/Unhealthy Food

Students took turns to play this online game where they had to decide which food items are healthy and which ones not. The rest of the class attended the game on the projector and helped the players by voting for healthy food items with thumbs up and for the unhealthy ones with thumbs down.

Play for yourselves and have fun!

Students watched a basketball game from the Olympic Games in Paris 2024 and attempted a little game themselves in our school yard.

February (Handball) - Marianna Konstantinou_2nd Kindergarten of Kremasti, Rhodes, Greece

This month, we found out that we will learn about Handball, a sport not so popular in Greece. That is why we had to watch a couple of videos from the Olympic games to get ourselves aquainted with it.

Students threw a ball to different targets (bigger and smaller ones) from various distances and in distinct heights. They practised the skill individually and in opposing teams.

Students practice passes in pairs and in gradually larger groups. Then, they throw and catch the ball while moving.

The students experimented with play dough in order to create balls of different sizes.

We asked parents to bring oranges for the children to squeeze

and make fresh juice that we all tasted!

In the end, in our free time, we watched more handball games from the Olympics and practised throws and catches!

January activities (Athletics) - Marianna Konstantinou_2nd Kindergarten of Kremasti, Rhodes, Greece

To begin with, the students put together a flag race with various activities and even timed their attempts.

Following that, they decided to compete each other in a long jump race.

Then, they measured the distances they covered to find out who had done best. To visualise their effort, they used a bar chart with different colours to represent each participant.

We informed parents about our activity with healthy snacks based on nuts and honey and they were willing to provide us with all the necessary ingredients so as to prepare the traditional delicacy of our island, melekouni, which is made of honey, sesame and nuts. Some of them even attempted making some croquants at home.

Later, we learned how our bodies work and move. To grasp it better, we decided to make a puppet from scatch step by step. What do you think?

Finally, in their free time they practiced everything they had learned the entire month!

December activities - Marianna Konstantinou_2nd Kindergarten of Kremasti, Rhodes, Greece

The children participated in a relay contest where the players had to walk on balance boards of different thickness, exercise their crawling movements through the caterpillar and finally practice single-foot and double-foot hops! They really had the time of their life!

In their free time, students practiced in the school yard and had fun using hula hoops and jumping ropes.

Children found out and exchanged information about a healthy and balanced nutrition. Their parents were informed about our topic and were asked to bring seasonal fruit in class. We prepared a delicious fruit salad to taste in the classroom and some more to take home and share with our families!

Our children created their wishing cards, sent them to our partner's pupils and were so thrilled to receive theirs that they asked to have their picture taken!

Our students watched various videos from Gymnastics from the Olympic Games to get inspired!

Finally, our students held a video conference with their partners, got to meet them, danced to "Baby shark" and exercised with some work-out videos. Finally, we showed our partners the New Year's card we had created for them.
